Specialisterne USA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, providing programs for talent and career development for autistic people. Specialisterne USA’s goal is to enable 100,000 jobs in the United States by 2025.
Specialisterne USA is part of the global Specialisterne group managed by Specialisterne Foundation. Specialisterne USA shares knowledge and contacts with the Specialisterne operations and their partners in 17 countries throughout the world.
Specialisterne (Danish for “The Specialists”) is an innovative social business concept originally founded in Denmark by Thorkil Sonne. Since 2004, Specialisterne has been internationally recognized as the first and foremost example of a company paving the way for innovative companies to benefit from diversity by including autistic people in competitive jobs.
Specialisterne is known as the front runner in paving the way for innovative companies such as HPE, SAP and Microsoft to benefit from diversity by including autistic people in competitive jobs. We call it the Autism Advantage.
Specialisterne’s model for assessment and employment has been adapted for jobs such as data analysts, quality controllers, coders and software testers by employers such as SAP, HPE, Microsoft, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One and the State of Delaware. Since 2013, Specialisterne USA has enabled approximately 200 jobs in 8 states across the U.S. in partnership with community agencies and corporate partners.
The impact will be significant:
We have created momentum for employers demonstrating an interest in the Autism Advantage. Since 2014, we have tested our pre-employment program with autistic high schools students with very promising results. We have seen autistic students in active teamwork with robotics, unfold leadership and entrepreneurship skills that teachers had not been aware of.
